I am the custodial parent of a 4 year old son. His mom recently started dating an interstate truck driver and wants to take our son on the road with them for a week at a time. My question is, can the non-custodial parent cross state lines with a minor child without the custodial parents consent? Also, if you know, does the DOT allow minor children to ride in Tractor/Trailer rigs on interstate runs?

First, check your court order to see if there's any limitations in there about vacations out of state. Which right now it'd be classified as a vacation.

The DOT doesn't have any rules against children riding, but most trucking companies do. Wheteher the BF is an owner-operator or a company driver you should insist on seeing proof of insurance covering the child and proof that his company is allowing passengers.

A 4 yr old riding for a week isn't bad- and I know I might get blasted for this- but a 4 yr old isn't going to do well for longer trips. They will get bored and tired very easily. It's not even easy for an adult passenger to ride for hndreds of miles and hour after hour without stopping. So talk to ex about the possibility of you taking your child when ex wants to travel.

The mom just quit her job so she is on what could be called a "permanent vacation". The divorce decree states "scheduled vacations from work". I know I might be splitting hairs here but you can't take a vacation from work if you're unemployed

You're splitting hairs. A person can take a vacation from "work" even if they do not have a "job" outside of the home that they earn an income from.
