Maine;

Does a teacher have the right to change a state wide assessment grade to there will based on work rate and general attitude. Say a student does excellent work and deserves a good grade, but the student also has a problem with the way the teacher conducts the classroom and the students, and tends to give a little “lip” because of it. Is it legal for the teacher to take points of a statewide standard assessment because of this?

Note: this assessment is a judgment of the general academic level of all students in the state and it also determines what level class you will be assigned to next year. language arts (English) is the subject I case it proves relevant.

When a child is assessed there are several factors that are considered. All factors need to be evaluated to make sure the student is getting the appropriate education in a particular subject. Although standarized testing is helpful in evaluating a student, it is not used alone.

The students records, such as grades, any disciplinary problems, observation from other teachers, tardiness.........anything that may exist, that could help make a complete appraisal on a student. Using these factors can give a better evaluation of the student and where they should be placed.

Dont know how teacher could change a state standardized score. Doesn't the state score them and return them to the school? Thats how it is done in AZ.
