What is the name of your state? California

I recently discovered that a former friend of mine has screwed me to the tune of 20,000. She was paying the bills on two accounts in both our names and then stopped paying. Two years later, I'm getting calls from these guy demanding payment. Obviously, my credit is in the toilet. To make matters worse the company I'm working for went under.

If there is a stature of limitations of debt collections, I'm considering just blowing it off, or declaring bankrupcy. To be honest, If it were my debt I would pay it, but with my credit already ruined, what do I have to loose??

SOL in CA is 4 years across the board. If the last time they were paid was 2 years ago, you're not out of the woods yet.

The problem is that the account was in BOTH your names, that puts you squarely on the hook for the bill.
