Is there a statute of limitations regarding how long a business can wait to charge for services?
I attempted to pay the caterer for my daughter's wedding reception FIVE TIMES last fall, and was told on every occasion, "It's being taken care of." I even mailed in the original bill with my credit card number, but it was never charged to my credit card. Since there were some complications with the event (caterer quit and was replaced one week before the wedding, resulting in some problems with the food), I eventually concluded this meant we would not be charged...so I gave my daughter the money for a Disney World vacation. Now, one full year later, I get a bill from the caterer...
Is this legal?

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

What state are you in?

Usually it is one year - 4 years. But above and beyond that, you showed extreme good faith and fair dealing and thus, it should be negated. Don't feel you need to pay.

They can't come now and ask for the money. What they did was not in a reasonable time and by not accepting payment from you then negated their right to collect now.

This is my theory but do what you feel is right.
