What is the name of your state? CA

Does anyone know where I can find information on the statute of limitations for prosecution of statutory rape? I posted this question previously and didn't get any responses. Surely someone here knows something. Right?

It depends on the circumstances. It could be as short as six years, and as long as ten (possibly thirteen depending on how a 3-year extension for out of state suspects is applied). It also depends on whether it occured or was reported before 1/1/01.

Essentially, without details, there is no simple answer. And I don't have any simple place to look ... perhaps if you call your nearest law library or bar association, you could get a good, definitive answer.

Thank you for the information. It occured only recently. It's complicated and I'd rather not go into details. Guess I might get more information that way, but I also know from reading certain threads here that there would be some not-so-nice comments as well.

Understandable about not wanting to post details. And I can guarantee that I would not be sympathetic if you committed this act, either.

Now, if it occurred more or less recently, then the SOL does not apply to you anyway ... unless the crime goes unreported and undiscovered for a very long time.

It was not I but someone very close to me (I know what you're thinking...yeah right). It is a difficult position for me to be in as I disapprove but want to provide support to this person as well. Someone discovered the affair, but has agreed not to report it as long as she stays away from him. I just worry that this person may not keep their word in the future :(
