I have recently received notice that I am being required to pay support for my ex-wife's child from a previous marriage. I was charged with support of the same child by the state of Washington in 1995. I have paid over $3,000.00 in the past and am now being charged with over $9,000.00 in support. I never adopted this child, the mother has been obsolved of all responsibility and the father has never been charged with support. That leaves just me. I can ill afford to retain a lawyer, much less pay him to research the laws in Washington and challenge the laws there. I am in desperate need of assistance and advice on how to get out from under this.

Step child support

I know in New York an ex has to pay child support for their step children especially where the bio dad never pay support. Go to http://www.divorcenet.com and click on your state. Look under the Family Law Issues section after you choose your state. There is an article about Step parents. It was overturned and Step fathers DO NOT have to pay child support for a step child no longer residing with them. I sure hope this helps and if you need more let me know and I'll try to help.
