my husband has a child in kings county and we have be talking about trying to get more custody of the child ... he is 6 years old ... we only get to see him one weekend a month per court order ...sat 9/8 sun9/12pm

we have to drive 6 hrs round trip to see him ... we live in orange co ... what we want is more custody like being able to bring him over to our home and have him spend the night on the weekend and during vacation , and to share the cost of travel ... she use to live in orange co when they were together and when they got separeted she moved over there because she didnt want my husband to be apart of the kids life ... we have been paying for the travel because she is very stuburn and when my husband talks to her about letting him come dwn here she gets mad and hang up on him when they are on the phone or shuts the door when they are in person .

what should we ask the court for .... we have been shopping around for an attorney but have not found any ... do you have any suggestion on where to find an unexpensive attorney
help thanks

~You should ask the court for whatever you are wanting. It would not be asking for too much to petition for: every other weekend over nights, every other holiday, every other birthday, every father's day, and a couple weeks in the summer. Good Luck:)

Dad should certainly be able to get more visitation - including overnights. Give some serious thought to asking that the child be allowed to fly - yes, more expensive than driving, but more time efficient and most airlines will allow a 6yo to fly as an unaccompanied minor. I'd certainly ask for at least 1 w/e a month (after school Fri - Sun evening), alternating holidays, half the summer.
