I have been "awol" for 2 months now and still have not been dropped. Does the unit HAVE to DFR you? Or can they take as long as they want? Maybe never do it? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

call your unit and ask. sounds kind of funny but we had an awol and im the operations nco for my company and the soldier called and asked why he hadn't been DFR yet. i told him i'd look into it and he said thanks and hung up. haha. what a guy!

good chance no one really cares, hasn't got around to it yet, paper work lost or sitting on some ones desk.

My husband friend went awol from AIT in Sept and still hasnt been dfr yet, he call the federal hotline one day and they be like yea your dropped go turn yourself in and then then the next day they be like oh yea we're starting on paperwork, then a few days later they told him that he wasnt dfr yet. Gi right basically told him that at his unit someone just hasnt dont the paper yet or hasnt submit it yet. If you ever call the federal hotline and they say your dropped call again in a few days to double check.

"Confused" GET A LIFE!

You think that the world owes you, wake-up and see the trees before the forrest! Do the right thing NOW: Turn yourself in and be done with it. You are wasting our tax dollars and unless you get your head and heart wired together I surely would not want you covering my 6! Shorty out.

No no no he should wait till he's dfr, then turn him self in. Whats the point of going awol, wanting out of the military to turn his self in before he's dfr, so they can ship his ass back to his unit. Confused, wait until your dfr.

I asked a simple question, not any different from what others ask here. You have no reason to talk shi* to me. I'm not wasting your tax dollars, I don't recieve pay from the Army any longer. I will be turning myself in....when I'm DFR. As far as you not wanting me to cover your "6", I don't what to say about that. I served my time in Iraq....as an 11B and did it well, no member of my team ever doubted or questioned me...Yes I'm an NCO, or was. I know I did the wrong thing by leaving, but I have my reasons. Yet I stayed and never ran from Combat like many others, I begged to go and I did. I recieved a bronze star for my actions there and recieved 2 purple hearts ( not that they are anything to brag about.) My point being...don't talk shi* to someone who you know nothing about. That's all. -Out-

I don't know why you would want to take that route to exit the military after all that you have been through.. It sounds like you need more help than a lawyer is capable of offering.

Anyway... Giving advice to break the law is not what this site is about. Although we have plenty of people who post on here that will tell you to stay AWOL untill you are DFR they are telling you to break the law.

You said you where an NCO. As an NCO would you have advised one of your non-rates to break the law?

Have you put any thought into why it is taking so long for them to drop you from rolls? Perhaps they believe in you more than you do.

My advice is the same as anyone here with a decent reputation. GO BACK

What a way to screw up a perfect record... You had a lot of things going for you with a DD 214 showing all this, but now it will say Dishonorable or OTH. Not what your employers want to see.

If you turn yourself in and are returned to your unit, you might have a chance at fixing this. You *will* lose rank over it, guaranteed, but you just might set your future back on track.;)

An Army NCO
