I had 2 sons(16&13) recently charged with felony theft of stolen parts. Two vehicles identified by the police,as stolen approx. 2yrs.ago, were found on private property. My sons had removed the front clip from one of the vehicles. They were caught, and they know they were wrong, but the problem I'm having with this whole situation is the fact that only the vehicle, from which the part was removed, was the only vehicle taken off the property. The 2nd vehicle was left there, but a statement has been placed in the police report, that it had been stolen also. My question is: Why weren't both vehicles removed and secured by police?

Concerned,

I am just as confused as you might be. Who removed the one vehicle? What is a clip from a vehicle's front end? Why such a high charge (a felony) rather than a misdemeanor? Do your son's have a prior criminal record? Do you have an attorney yet?
