What is the name of your state? vt. My lawsuit will be filed the first week of May for sexual harassment/hostile work environment/wrongful termination. My attorney is sending out the first and only demand letter before filing. He is asking for a very fair settlement. Hospital bills, time lost from work, and therapy. My three questions are...Are demand letters actually worth sending, and do companies take them that seriously? Two, once the suit is filed and it is now available to the public, has anyone ever experienced it getting into newspapers, and can tell me what to expect? Three, am I considered a victim? thanks Faith

Here we go again. Why aren't you asking your attorney these questions? You're only considered a "victim" if you let yourself be.

Why are you second guessing your attorney's decisions? You are paying him to represent you. If you don't trust that s/he knows what s/he is doing, you need to get another attorney.

Why do you care whether you are a victim? Your many posts suggest that you may have a victim mentality.

Wow....I know what my lawyers says....im ONLY asking your opinion. This is a forum right???
None of us has the information your lawyer has and on which s/he is deciding how to proceed with your case. It would be reckless of us to try to hazard an opinion with so little information, or more importantly, so few facts.

Ok, I guess I will somewhat rephrase my question. Once it is filed in the courts, how and will it become public?? Is there something I can request from my lawyer for it not to be made pubic? thanks, faith

Civil and criminal proceedingss are in the public domain - anybody can look those up if they want to. Regarding any potential media interest, I can't imagine you aren't FAR overestimating anyone's interest in your situation except yourself.

I was only asking due to the fact I want to protect some areas in my life...plus my children. Felt it was a question I could ask the forum, but I keep forgetting how judgemental some are in this forum. If the forum was set up to help with questions you don't want to bother asking your attny or at least getting info before talking to one, then why the heck have this type of forum?!

The problem is that you are asking questions that we do not have any way of knowing the answer to, but that your lawyer would. The state you are in, the district court you are in, the specific judge handling your case and how backed up his staff is; all of these would affect the answer to your question now. WE DON'T KNOW THAT.

It's one thing to ask for general information about the law. We can help with that. We CANNOT answer specific questions about your specific case. We do not have the information to do so. Your lawyer does.

Do most sexual harassment cases go public once filed in the courts? "Go public" as in being reported in the local media? No. If you mean "go public" as in court filings are public records, yes.
