Yep. I have had to correct a lot of folks out here who were thinking it took place in October of THIS year. It's another unfunded mandate by the state since the courts now have to figure out who is going to do these mandated assessments and how they will be paying for them (since prosecutions of misdemeanors is down and thus the payments of fines have dropped drastically already as a result). Without these folks to conduct these assessments, the default position of release on one's own recognizance will take place. Just one more notch in the pro-criminal agenda of this state's legislature and governor.

What a mess. I cannot understand how that will work.

Neither do most of us. Though, there are a few serious, violent felonies that will still require bail, certain robberies and non-firearm ADWs are not among them. It's a mess here.

I suspect there will be a whole lot of FTA warrants issued.

Even WITH bail there are thousands of FTA warrants in Sacramento County alone! I cannot imagine the cavalcade of warrants that will exist when this law comes to pass!

Yours is a very strange state, Carl. The only thing worse might be three Californias. Haha.

sigh...my DD lives there. ;(
Sacramento is the first jurisdiction in my career where I have heard Dispatch regularly BOL ADWs in progress because there are no units free to respond. They are, sadly, too often dealing with other priorities.

THAT would have been a disaster, since the way they were divvied up, it was a guarantee that two of the three would have been at least as radical as the current state, and likely that all three would be tilting hard left. Now, if we could get the State of Jefferson to actually come into being ... :)

I don't know why anyone would chose to live in Cali...but I'm sure many people think the same of Boston. (home of my heart)

My wife and I are looking to escape when she retires ... June 15th, 2022. Maybe sooner if we choose to take the pension hit. Then, we join the many other refugees that are our friends fleeing CA.

As for Boston and the Sox, I'm surrounded by Dodgers fans (bleh!), but have no great love of the Sox, either. I guess I'm ambivalent this year.
