What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?NJ-- IS IT AGAINST THE LAW FOR THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL (MIDDLE SCHOOL )TO HUMILIATE A STUDENT WHO TALKED WHEN SHE WASNT SUPPOSED TO IN THE SCHOOL LUNCH ROOM THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. HE PROMPTED HER TO BRING UP HER THINGS AND HE PUT HER AT A TABLE FACING AWAY FROM EVERYONE BY HERSELF AND ALONE IN THE CORNER OF THE CAF. WHILE THE OTHER STUDENTS LAUGHED AND POINTED. THE SAD PART IS SHE HAS LIFE THREATENING FOOD ALLERGIES AND SHE WAS TALKING TO HER PEERS SO SHE COULD FIND A SAFE SPOT TO EAT. I FEEL THE PRINCPAL WAS WAY OUT OF LINE . IM FURIOUS , FRUSTRATED AND AS FOR MY DAUGHTER SHE IS EMBARASSED UPSET FRIGHTENED ETC . I EMAILED THE PRINCIPAL 2 DAYS AGO AND HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HIM
Emails are the easiest form of communication to ignore.
Call the school's secretary, set up a meeting, and bring the info about your daughter's food allergies to discuss. You might calm down a bit before you tell him how "humiliated" your daughter was, and realize that there are school rules. If she broke the "no talking" rule, she had to "suffer" a consequence. This has nothing to do with laws or legalities - so it would be laughable if you thought you were going to sue.
Also, you might realize, that if we are talking about a middle school girl, they tend to see EVERYTHING as a crisis of epic proportions, because in her short 11 or 12 years, this might have been the most humiliating thing that has happened to her. There will be more incidents, so you might try discussing with her how to carry herself with grace and proper behavior, so that she is not put in the spotlight again.
