What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Pennsylvania:confused:

We have a student loan for my daughter, it is in my husbands name(stepfather).
The loan is now come to attention of his company and they are garnishing wages 15% each pay period, starting Feb 25th pay period. This is quite a bit of money a month - is there anyway to get them to stop and accept payment of an amount that is affordable to us and they get payment also.

Was there a court oder for garnishment?

How would you know if it is a Court Order?? It looks to me to be a letter(standard), it quotes Public Law amended by Public law 109-171;20U>S>C> 1095a et seq. It tells his employer they are hereby ordered and directed to withhold income and it states 15% disposable pay to PHEAA.

Apparently daughter did not pay as agreed and since dad guaranteed the loan, they have come after him. At this point they do not have to negotiate, they will be getting the money through their own legal means. It would not hurt for stepdad to call and see what can be worked out.

I would also speak to your daughter about paying stepdad back.

Student loans will follow the borrower/guarantor's to the grave.

**A: most likely no since the matter has gone this far. The time to negotiate is before court action.
