in 1995 in the state of illinois i declared bankruptcy. at the time i was told that i could include student loans. i did just that and i was told that this was the end of the situation. well a few days ago i get contacted by the department of education. instead of the 1,500 dollars i owed them they now want 4,300 because they say that i owe them since 1988. i called the department of education and this is what they told me. in july of 1995 the department of education posted a notation on my record which stated that my loan was a approved dischargeable bankruptcy. then for some reason in february of 2001 somebody opened my case file and reversed the decision. can they do that ? if they can do i have to pay six years of interest like they want? heres the kicker if i dont come up with the settlement amount of 3,300 dollars by the first week in october i am going to be sued and it is estimated that i will owe close to 6,000. i contacted the lawyers who did my bankruptcy and they really have nothing to say. any advice?

I'm confuse by your last sentence. Your lawyers have nothing to say? I would be damn well demanding an explanation.
