What is the name of your state? TX

I have student loans outstanding totalling 8500. They are in default.

I am trying to work with the debt collector and have advised him that rather than him garnishing my pay I would pay 100.00 permonth. He said that this is not enough (I cannot afford me) and he said he would go ahead and get my wages garnished.

Can he do that even though I have offered to pay the debt?

Any help you can give me I would so appreciate, this guy has been calling me daily always pushing me.

Any thoughts?

If you are in default, the creditor has the right to ask for payment in full immediately.

You cannot force a creditor to accept what you want to pay -- even if that is all you can pay.

Perhaps you would be wise to consider credit counseling. Call the local united way and ask if they have a member agency that does credit counseling. If they don't, send me a PM and I'll help you find one that won't cheat you.

Don't go out on the internet and find a counselor. Bad idea.
