student nurse with drug charge

I have just been accepted into a LPN program. I have had criminal checks before and an incident 7 years ago has never shown up before I guess because the charges were dismissed but the background check for this insitution found where I had been charged with simple possesion of marj. As I said the charges were dissmissed but the court records show that the trial date and disposal date are 6 months apart. My lawyer got the charges dropped by me going through a substance abuse program and I could not be charged with any drug charges for seven years so I guesss it was like a prayer for judgement. Well I was devestaded when the criminal background found the charge. MY QUESTION is will or can the panel that reviews these background checks (for clinical sites) hold this against me. My lawyer says that I could have an expungemnet(sp?) done but it will take 6-9 months well that would have been great to know about a year ago. My first day of orientation into the program is in 4 days.
