Six months ago I was illegally subleting a New York apartment. The only verbal agreement was that I was to pay the rent on time. Now (six months later) he is telling me I owe him $626 for the utilities. He is also harassing me by calling my work and home phone and threatened to come to my workplace. I have told him that there was no agreement , verbally or on paper to pay this. He says there was an agreement. My questions are ...would this hold up in small claims court? and does him bothering me constantly hinder his chances of winning in court?

It will be his word against yours. You argue that you got discounted rent because he needed to sublet for whatever he could get. He'll argue that only an idiot would have sublet for less than the place cost him. (Patently untrue)

Good luck
