What is the name of your state? MA

I signed a sublease for a room in an apt., with the agreement being I would pay $400 a month plus my share of utilities. After I sign the sublease, I found out that my subeaser was dishonest by not telling me that there were 5 people living there when there is only 4 on the lease, and this is why the rent is so cheap.

Now, the extra person who hasnt signed any agreement, has moved out and my other roommates want me to pay for 1/4th of her rent which was $600 a month (b/c her room was bigger). She had no obligation to pay b/w she had not signed anything, but I never knew about this illegal arrangement. Am I responsible for this extra money when I was never told of this illegal arangement in the first place? I never got a copy of the lease or a copy of anything, as a matter of fact, throughout this whole process. ALso, I asked for a copy of the signed sublease, ans my subletter says she lost her copy, and the landlord said she never got a copy. So don't I technically have no obligation to the place? My subletter is now not returning my e-mails, because I think she is confusing a sublease for an assignment, and thinks she signed over the lease to me. I am just refusing to pay the extra rent, and I only think I am obligated to what I agreed to, and even if I didn't pay that, they would have no way to prove what I owe, right? What are my legal rights and responsibilities here? Who should be responsible for paying for the extra $600 for the now empty room? Any comments are appreciated!!
