What is the name of your state?I am in CA. I received a summons today for a valid debt. I do not have the money to pay the entire debt in the next 30 days, but I can pay it off over time. The most important thing is that I do not get any judgements or leins on my property. I have consulted with a lawyer already, his fees are quite high. Am I safer if I retain his services, or can I negotiate with the plantiff's lawyers and file the court papers on my own? If I do file on my own, how high is the risk for making mistakes, etc.
