Hi--I'm a fiction writer working on a novel. If this is a misuse of the bb, I apologize, but if not: I'm trying to figure out how and when a summons or process or notification of complaint would be served to my poor unsuspecting heroine. What, exactly, is the procedure? What is it called, who would bring this to her (it's a civil suit) and what's the next step? And would it be possible for the media to know about this beforehand? Thanks!

My response:

I wouldn't call it a "misuse" of this BB; frivolous, yes, but not a misuse - - especially when there are hundreds of people who write to this Board, with real life problems.

You should continue your research in the "Reference Section - Legal" in your local library. There are many "How-To" books on the subject. You'll also learn how your heroine could dodge process, or if served, how to get rid of the Summons.

This should be the most exciting part of your novel.
