What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Indiana
I would like to know if a man has to continue to pay child support for an 18 year old who recently graduated and plans to take a year off before joining the military.

That's an interesting one.

Child support in IN goes to age 21 or emancipation, whichever comes first. Marriage or entering the military is automatically considered as emancipation. Otherwise, you have to file to terminate child support and demonstrate that the child is emancipated.

It would be difficult to emancipate an 18 year old unless the 18 year old had a job that earned him or her enough that they could be technically self sufficient.
