florida recently my 17 yr old decided that he couldnt live by our rules so he went to live with his mother in massachusetts. i had custody of him for 15yrs. will a court require me now to pay child support? would emancipating him release me of this?

Technically, you still have custody until you modify it with the courts. Until your ex petitions and is granted custody, you are still the custodial parent.

The proper thing to do would be to petition yourself, and have custody granted to your ex, if that is what you want. Then, yes, you would have to pay court ordered child support, should your ex request it.

What is the situation at hand?
