my nephew is 20. he got a ticket and was to appear in court in indiana. the day he was to appear he was in jail in the same building he was to go to court in. they cited him with failure to appear. they suspended his license because he didn't show proof of insurance, which he had. after that he hit a deer. the cop told him his license was suspended. thought he got in taken care of. he just got pulled over 2 weeks ago and found out still suspended. he has a lawyer already paid for and he won't do anything. how can he get his license back. we keep hitting dead ends.

Hello.

This happened to me in the state of Kansas. I wrecked my car and the officer never asked me for proof of insurance. Needless to say he sent a form into the DMV stating that I had no insurance so they suspended my license. I ended up having to send proof to the DMV that the car was insured on the date of the wreck. Perhaps this is what your nephew needs to do.

First have him call up the DMV and see if this is what they need. If it is sending them a copy of your insurance card isn't good enough. You will have to have your insurance agent send them a form with the cars VIN# on it, your nephews drivers license# on it and the dates that the car was insured (your agent has probably done this before). If at all possible get the DMV'S Fax# (your agent can just fax the information)(this will speed things up). This should get his license unsuspended. Of course if it is suspended for other reasons or if the car wasn't insured then this won't work. From what you said in your post though this should work.

If you have any more questions or do not understand this, then please reply.

Good luck to you!
