What is the name of your state? all

I heard that the supreme court is thinking about making it illegal fort a judge to suspend a persons DL because of arrears. Has anyone else heard this. It kind of makes sense to me because if the person loses their DL then they now have to pay more money out of their pocket for public transportation. I know that there is no bus that drives close to my hubbies work and it would cost 40 a day to get to and from work. Anyways, has anyone else herard this?

Well if enough people pester their state and their congressfolk and representatives, it very well could become an issue.

The DL suspension thing has always been controversial. People will STILL drive if it's suspended if they have to get to work.

I agree that it is a stupid law. There seem to be so few options when it comes to punishing someone who evades paying their child support. My ex didn't work for years and avoided being served by the DCSS (for 7 years!). He was found in contempt 3 times but nothing happened to him. About the only thing that could be done was to suspend his license. I'm sure he still drives but at least there will be some penalty if he gets caught.

I agree, suspending a drivers license is not going to get someone to pay.... I think jail time and a close encounter of the worst kind is the most effective...I know everyone is going to say that if they are in jail they can't pay...BUT when they get out they will work their little buts off to avoid going back..... :D So for 6 months you don't get paid...you weren't getting paid anyway, at least you know after they get out they will pay you to avoid going back............You may get the occasional tough subject, but I would guess that over 90% will fall right in line after a trip to “Bubba Land”….. :D

They will also STILL drive if it's suspended if they have to get the bar, to the store, to a friend's house, etc. It's not a very effective deterrent, judging by the number of DWS cases that go through the courts each month.

I don't think that people realize how many people drive cars without a valid license or insurance.

We live in a society where there is really very little public transportation unless you are in a major metropolitan area, and even then there may not be much public transportation.

So...people drive even when they aren't legal. Its horribly wrong, but they do it.

Absolutely, and everyone who IS licensed and insured needs to carry the maximum uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage they can get in order to protect themselves in the event of a serious collision with an unlicensed, uninsured driver.
