What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ms.
WE had a swimming pool birthday party for our 9 year old granddaughter last year. She wants to do this again this year. However, I am debating this matter.
Last year, we did require that the parents come and stay with their children. We also told them they were to supervise their own children and if they could not swim the child was to have a life jacket on. We provided these.
One parent did not make any attempt to supervise his child. After seeing her in the pool, he was told she had to put on a life jacket or get out. He ignored this. I made her get out after seeing she couldn't swim and the parent ignored my request. She wasn't happy.
What is the responsibility of the parent? What are my Responsibilities?

Your responsiblity is to make sure you have the highest homeowners insurance that you can buy and make sure the parents understand the rules, or don't invite them. A "swim at your own risk" sign couldn't hurt. In fact, if you could hire a lifeguard for the day, that wouldn't be a bad idea.

The 'swim at your own risk' sign really means nothing.... however, the 'hire a lifeguard' for the party is an EXCELLENT idea. Depending on the number and age of the children, it might not be a bad idea to have TWO lifeguards.... in case one is busy beating the crap out of a child. :D
