I really want to switch insurers on my home and my current coverage expires in two weeks. New insurance companies always ask if I've made a claim in the last 3 years. So far I haven't, but I am in the midst of investigating indications of water damage that may end up being covered by the old insurer.
Am I wrong in assuming that if I stay with my current insurer for a few more months in order to make this claim a new insurer won't accept me?
Also, if I switch before making the claim can I still make the claim with the old carrier?
Help!!

These are NOT legal questions and should really be asked of your insurance agent. However, I will say it is NOT smart to transfer carriers when you are contemplating filing a claim. Stick with the one you have until AFTER your claim is filed and processed.
