What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TX

TAA= Texas Apartment Association; standard lease contract for most apartments.

I'm giving the current apartment I live at a thirty day notice of intent to vacate. My current lease doesn't expire until Dec. 31, 2008, but I would be moving at the end of September. To be within the lease requirements I'm still giving a thirty day notice stating October 31, 2008 to be my last day. (1) B/c my move out has to be on the last day of the month, and (2) at least thirty days in advance.

My landlord said that all I would have to pay is a reletting charge and the remainder of the rent through my notice. I read on my lease that paying this reletting charge is a not a buy-out fee and that I'm still responsible for paying for the remainder of the lease. I brought this up and she stated they allow it. I'm confused on how that is legal as this was never inputted in the special provisions on my lease contract.

Should I just pay the remainder of my current lease and be done with it? Or have her type up a revision stating what she told me verbally?

Also, in TX are you able to move out before your lease is ended as long as you pay throughout your lease and give a thirty day notice?

Thanks!

If the landlord is open to changing the terms of her lease in your favor, go for it, but be sure to get the change in writing. Never go by verbal agreements since one party may later discover that it's to their advantage to change their position.
