I recently purchased a home and my girlfriend and her son live with me. She has custody of her son. I was told that I could claim her and her son as a dependent. She makes less than 16,000 a year and I make more than 44,000 a year. We live in Louisiana and would like to know if this is true or not. And if it is true how do we have to file to do this (separate or together).
