In Illinois, is there a statute of limitations on how long the revenue department can go back on your previous business taxes? i have obtained a release of lien from 1991 taxes, now they are saying that this was a "mistake".

The statute of limitations depends on what taxes you are talking about and on what procedure has been followed so far. For example, the statute of limitations for collection of withheld taxes is different from the statute of limitations for collection of state income tax. And the statute of limitations for collection is different from the statute of limitations for assessment of the tax. In other words, you must give more info to get an answer.
