I want to teach my artist trade to someone for a set amount of money but do not want to give away my trade secrets so I want them to sign a contract saying that they have to buy most of the needed supplies from me. I buy the supplies at a source unknown to them. Can I sell the product for a profit and send it across state lines? Can I make a stipulation that the buyer form no competition to other buyers and not teach the trade to others except for employees?

You can make any legally binding contract that you want and that they will sign. However, you might run into a 'constraint of trade' issue if the 'student' finds out about the source on his/her own efforts. Rather than a 'lockout' you might consider a clause whereby the 'student' agrees to pay you a 'royalty' for a specific period of time if he/she doesn't purchase the raw product through you.
