I am so frustrated and sickened by this. In Sept. I enrolled at a technical school for a dual program. Note - they do have these programs seperatly, but I wanted to do both. The program is for EMT/Paramedic and it is 19,000.
Ok, so first things first.
I completed the EMT program, which if taken alone, costs 700.00. That includes books, fees, everything. I completed 20 days of the Paramedic progam. The entire dual program was broken up into 5 terms, the first being 5442.00. Now, I dropped out of the paramedic program after 20 days and my total tuition costs (including fees, etc) is $6300.
My second major issue with this is that when I enrolled to the school, I sat down with a Financial Aid councelor who did my FASFA and said I was approved for 13500.00 through Direct Loans. Because the program costs 19,000, I would have to come up with the other 5500.00 on my own to cover after the Direct Loans ran out. I applied for a private loan and was approved and wrote the check out to the school under the pretense that it was placed aside until needed at the end of the program. When I dropped, they took that money towards the tuition instead of doing it through Direct Loans. They took my check and billed the remaining 810.00 through Direct Loans.
I would have rather had my check back to me and they could have billed my tuition under Direct Loans since it was covered up to 13500.00 and they are only ripping me off for 6300.00. Direct Loans has lower interest rates and many consolidation options, which my private loan does not. I would have never written the check so prematurely had I known that money would not be waiting in the wings until needed...but instead used immediatly. Now I have to pay the private loan back, when i could have just refunded it.
Now, I am getting the complete run around from everyone at the school. I can not get a straight answer from anyone. I keep getting voicemails and no return calls and when I do get someone they tell me that "they don't know what to tell me". I say to give me the contact of a person that does know what to tell me and that goes nowhere.
Do I have any legal rights about this at all? Don't I have a right to an explanation??
