What is the name of your state? Colorado.
My sister is 17, and has a 13 month old boy. Her and the boy's father were doing fine, working together as a couple and providing for their child, and both of them still live with their respective parents. She found out yesterday that he has been cheating on her for eight months and so she dumped him, and now she's worried that he and his mother will try to get custody of her son. There is no order in place currently.
I went throught this situation with my daughter about three years ago, but I am having troubles giving her advice because she is a minor. Will our parents need to go with her to file an Allocation of Parental Responisibility? Is that the correct step to take?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I am guessing there is no order in place as they were still together until reccently. If nothing has been done through the courts, she has full legal custody. Did he sign the AOP and birth certificate at the hospital?

She needs to go to the courts and get everything done through them to make sure that she gets support and has full custody of the child. He will be allowed visitation, however she has custody.

His mother cannot get custody of the child.

I understand that she needs to go through the courts, but will my parents need to accompany her? Will she be able to submit the paperwork without a guardian since she is a minor?

She needs to go see a alwyer with her mom and dad and find all this out. the best advice for now is to tell your sister not to let her baby out of her site!
