What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Hi, I llive in Temperance Michigan. I live across the street from an elderly couple being tormented by a group of skateboarders. We live in a subdivision and these kids are known and we know which homes they live in. They are egging the siding, breaking screens, breaking beer bottles against the brick and yelling into their windows around midnight. They have been seen by witnesses. One mother denied her son was out when the police arrived and when the witness stood right there and described his clothing she still denied it. The kid came down from his bedroom and was wearing the exact same clothing as described. The police said they could do nothing because he was not caught on the property he damaged. To me this advice is dangerous, it sounds as though someone has to physically hold the kid until the policve arrive-several of us would like to!
This couple is in their 70"s-she is dying of cancer and her recently had back surgery and has fallen 3 times in the past week. We would like to help them.
Are the police really giving us the proper information, or are they not really looking at this as a serious matter?

So, based on this, the police cannot act unless a criminal is caught in the act of the crime? Sure would make it easy for the prosecutor if this were required though.

Are the police really giving us the proper information,
NO.

I would start with contacting the head of the police department. The guys coming out are in serious dereliction of their duties.
