What is the name of your state? NJ
Is it a crime to make obscene and rude phone phone calls or just an annoyance to the one receiving them. I am receing calls from a child that curses at me and then hangs up. I want to know if I can bring this to the police or would that just be a waste of my time. I believe I know who it is but I no longer know where they live or how to reach the boys mother to complain. Will the police research and find the person.

What you need to do is contact the phone company or the operator and explain the situation... she will put a tracer on your phone and have you enter a code when this person calls... I can't remember the exact procedure, but they can explain... once the call takes place and you call RIGHT BACK to the number the operator gives you, it sends a report the proper authorities..

And YES, it is most certainly a crime to do that... phone harrassment is actually, in some states, considered more serious than face to face harrassment...

cell phone

star 69 does not work on a "blocked number". This is happening on my cell phone and when I called Verizon Wireless they told me they can not give me the number or do anything about it. Last night they actualy left a message on the voice mail so now I have a message to show the police and a time stamp so the records can be checked. I was told by Verizon Wireless that I would need a supoena to get the number from them.
