What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TX

My mother lives in WA and has a blue handicap tag that she hangs from the rear view mirror so whoever is driving can park in a handicap space. When she came to visit me in TX, she brought the tag and we used it the entire time she was here. But, every time I used it I wasn't sure if I might get a ticket since it was issued out of state. Does anyone know if states have some type of recipricol agreements about handicap tags? I know that in many places, cars will have plates with the handicap logo on it, but since she doesn't drive and have a car, she just uses the tag. I have looked on the net to see how TX might deal with this, but no luck. And, going to the DMV is a complete nightmare around here.

A valid handicap placard is legal in all 50 states, just like a valid license plate on a vehicle.

I don't know that much about the issuance of the blue hang tags, but I find it strange that one can be issued such a tag when one is not licensed to drive and has no vehicle registered to them. To me, there would be no need for a permit in a case like that.

Well, no matter haw strange you find it, it's done all the time. Texas will issue you a hang tag on a doctor's statement of your mobility impairment. The idea is that you're still able to park close even if someone else drives you.

That's exactly the point - a vehicle often has passengers who are handicapped. The handicapped spaces are for all with handicaps inside the vehicle, not just the driver. And, since those passengers don't always ride in the same vehicle, they use the hanging placard instead of having a permanent license plate. It's no different than having a driver's license and being able to drive any vehicle...

The only thing the OP must remember is that the placard is issued to one person and that person must be with you in the car for the placard to be valid....
