I live in Illinois and my lawyer filed a temporary relief order since my husband would not send any support money. We are not divorced yet. In the order it states he must provide medical insurance for me(his wife) and our 2 children and pay for anything not covered by medical insurance. My husband has just informed me that when his new insurance goes into effect at the end of February that ONLY the children will be covered. Is he in violation of this order? He signed it too. What can happen to him legally?

My response:

He'll be in Contempt of Court. The court's order specifically includes you; that you are to be insured at his expense. If he buys a separate policy for you, then he'll be fine. But, if you are not insured under any policy, then you get to take him back to court, and watch as the Bailiff gives your husband a pair of matching bracelets - - and his own steel toilet.
