I'm a landlord in Illinois. I served tenants with a 5 day notice for non-payment of rent. They acknowledged getting it. Since then, they have not been back to the apartment but many of their belongings are still there. I haven't been able to find them through family or employers. What do I need to do to properly take back the apartment and re-rent it? Do I have to go to court or can I just go in and remove there things and start showing the apartment again? I have no desire to keep them as tenants, but how do I evict them if I can't find them?
