Tenant Confidentiality

What is the name of your state? Kentucky

Is it legal for a landlord to share a tenants information (rent past due, etc.) with other tenants?

Also on our lease he has the years as 1925 and 1926 ( he is close to 90 years old). Is this still a valid lease?

Thanks

I believe the landlord may only share this information with propsective renting parties who need it to verify your history and or credit bureus.

As for the lease, if it really did start in 1925 and you have renewed it or it is automatically reneweing then yes it is a legitimate lease. However I you might want to have it updated at the next opportunity if it doesn't favor you.

**A: it does not matter when the lease started.

Perhaps we are confused :)

The lease started this year, 2005, just a couple months ago. He accidently wrote the lease was in effect from 1925 to 1926.

In that case would have to be a pretty morally low person to abuse the mistake of a well meaning 90 year old man.

If something is horribly amiss in your apts you might use that date as a techinicality to get out of the lease. Otherwise you should point this out, and I belive you can both legally change the dates to the proper ones if you both agree and continue the lease as stated.

Remember that by the same techinicality the lease may be void, if he discovers you do not have a valid lease you are also subject to treatment under those terms.

We're not really looking to get out at this point, we have only been here a month. We are just having problems getting our air conditioner fixed. The previous tenant waited more than six months for promised repairs, and we were told it was fixed when we moved in. In ran for a bit and then crapped out :( My fiancee was talking to a neighbor and was told that the LL has a habit of ignoring tenants when they need things fixed.

**A: oh, so you are saying that the lease should have listed the term of 2005-2006 but L wrote 1925-1926 by mistake? Then it's no biggie.
The actual correct years and term stands.

get a quote to have the AC fixed. then offer to the LL to have the AC fixed by you and deduct the expense from your rent. if he agrees, make sure you have a written acknowledgement of the agreement with his signature.
