Please give me some advises about my sistuation. I live in Maryland state, I had a tenant just moving out couple months ago. Before he moved out we did a final walkthrough and I told him what things needed to be fixed (I did not give him letter). I gave him a month to repair but he did not do it, so I called a handy man to get a estimate and I sent him the final check after minus the cost of fixing my house. Yesterday, I received a letter from his lawyer ask me to pay him back all the security deposite plus the interest otherwise I would bring me to the court and I probably end up paying 3 times more plus lawyer fees. He denied all the damages he made and said they were there when he moved in. A week after he moved in, I did a walkthrough with him to make sure everything was ok and he did not find any problems.
I took the pictures of all the damages. Should I have a receipt from the handy man who fixed my house? Should I get myself a lawyer but I have no money cause I lost my job since last year...Should I request a attorney from the judge? please give me ideas and advise to deal with this tenant.
I am sorry if you did not understand what I try to say above becuase English is my second language. Thank you

All you can do is return a letter stating that the repairs were needed due to the tenants negligence or damage, and go to court to tell a judge that.

Did you give him a letter clearing him of damage, and promising a return of the full security deposit. ? (I think thats what your sentence says, I don't know why you didn't proof read to make sure your post at very least made sense.)

forget about it. If you can't afford a lawyer, then represent yourself and bring proof of the repairs. lawyers charge anywhere from 25 to 50 dollars for a letter. It doesn't mean he has retained one. It's just used to intimidate you.
