Get sued and counterclaim or, initiate suit for repairs, or negotiate with LL.

Illinois Eviction Requirements

If you were in Illinois, to evict a residential tenant, a landlord must comply with the Illinois law. That includes a formal, written notice to terminate the tenancy AND a specific reason...such as non-payment of rent, termination of a month to month tenancy, violation of the provisions of the lease, etc.

Even after the time-period provided for in such written notice expires, landlords must then go to court to evict the tenant, and that takes, often, some weeks to happen.

So, as noted by others here and at the top of the screen, it is VERY important for those seeking educational information to note their city and state of residence.

Paul, welcome to these Boards. I hope you have time to stay and help out. We sure could use the advice from you. Jack Mevorach just joined us recently and he is doing a terrific job and also having a bunch of fun.

Thanks for the "hello"!

I am very active in the Chicago courts in landlord and tenant, and, have tried to become a kind-of scholar in the area; however, as we all know, the law varies, not only from state to state, but as in the case of Chicago, varies due to a "level-the-playing-field" Ordinance that provides more rights to tenants then does the State law of Illlinois.

I will be very supportive of your efforts here and hope that I can contribute a bit to the process....what I think we need is a national awareness, among lawyers, that there is a growing resource here and that lawyers from all fifty states and clearly, many cities that have their own Ordinances and laws, join us here for the betterment of justice.

Thanks again for your kind "hello"!
