I am the home owner to a new home that I purchased last year. I ended up having a family reside in the duplex, which recently - finding out that there were electrical problems and water heater was not to its code. The house then came to being "Red Tag."

Before having the tenant leave - they acknowledge and signed a document stating that any further lawsuits will be nulled.

My questions is, "Can the tenants claim for all the rent payment, knowing that I did not make any profits nor am I gaining anything from this?"

(Just to note that I give the tenants last month and deposit back.)
