A friend of mine is getting a divorce. The divorce was filed in March 2000 and at that time his wife and he sat down and agreed to the terms. The friend filed his own divorce. He never heard from the court, so he hired an attorney to "push Through" the uncontested divorce. In the meantime, the wife changes her mind, gets her own attorney and now wants my friend to pay her attorney fees and spousal support so she can go to school. She is in her 40's, healthy, and has 2 yrs of college. She doesn't work. He gave her a lump sum of several thousand dollars when they separated. Now, the friend's lawyer is saying he needs a 2000.00 retainer and he doesn't have it. Can the friend represent himself in court? How likely is it that he will be ordered to pay for all this? There are no minor children involved. Thank you.
