I work in Texas as an engineer for a high-tech company and the company policy states that all inventions/patents developed by employees are the property of the company.
I have read that some states limit the scope of employee agreements to only include inventions that were:
1) Made during the term of employment
2) Related to the employer's existing or planned business
3) Made by the using the employer's time or materials
Is Texas one of the states that has these limitations? If I have an invention idea developed completely on my own time, at home, that is unrelated to my employer's business, will they still gain complete ownership? I'm not ready to quit my job over this idea...
I have searched the Texas statutes online and have not found any material that covered this point.
Thanks in advance
