I have a small self storage unit in Texas, and ran into financial troubles a few months ago and have been unable to pay the balance until recently. I talked them back in late December and they stated I could work out a payment plan, but was unable to meet the needed down payment. Now, things are financially recovering for me so I went in to resolve my storage unit, and they stated it’s going to Auction on the 28th and they are no longer willing to work out any (reasonable) payment plans. I owe the full balance by the 28th.
The bill is around $500 (Roughly $150 rent + $350 late fees) which is annoying. I am honest, I generally want to pay my bills but that combined with these people’s attitude is infuriating.
Since they stated they will not work with me, and since there is nothing of monetary value in the storage unit I am wondering if I just let them have my stuff, can/do they pursue a deficiency balance?
I have reviewed the Self-Storage law of Texas located here: Self Storage Laws - Texas but cannot make a call based on that information.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!
