Last fall I tried to cancel my AMEX card. Instead they offered me an introductory rate of 3.9% on transfers/purchases if I transferred my account to a Delta Sky Miles card. So I said yes. This offer was recorded "for quality assurance purposes". About one month later I rec'd a letter welcoming me to Delta Sky Miles. The letter also informed me of the "following rates will be in effect on your new account." This included 3.9% on balance transfers for six months. The letter stated this new agreement was to take effect Jan 7. On Jan 17, I transferred some money to the account and was again reassured that that intro rate of 3.9% would apply. It didn't. They instead charged me 10.9% I called on Feb 16 and was told by a AMEX rep that they made a mistake and would fix the problem and credit my account. In March, the mistake was still not corrected. I called back but this time was told that my account never qualified for 3.9% because it was a transfer of an existing account to the Delta Sky Miles account. I told him of the taped phone converstasion when the offer was made, the letter I rec'd stating my account had a 3.9% intro rate, and the reassurance at the time of the transfer that the finance charge would be 3.9% According to AMEX, that was all a mistake. I never qualified for the 3.9%. I am still waiting to hear back from one of the supervisors. As far as I am concerned, they owe me money. Any suggestions on how to proceed? I live in Missouri. American Express billing address is in Florida.
