What is the name of your state? California

A family stayed in a vacation rental I own over the holiday week-end. They were given a discount before coming up, because of a leaky roof and sparce furniture. They called to complain and asked for a further discount. I said they could leave early and I would reimburse them for unused days. They opted to stay. When I tried to cash their check today, I found they put a stop payment on it. Is this theft by check? How can I collect from them?

**A: poor business practice to accept a check rather than cash or credit card. Anyway, now you have to take them to court. I hope they signed a rental agreement.
