Last year my wife died in a New Jersey Hospital, One day after Plastic Surgery all her personal belongings except her handbag were given to me. The hospital gave her handbag to the transport company that brought my wife to the medical examiner's office Who then gave it to the funeral director. Two items in the bag turned up missing, a bottle of percocet and a antibiotic. The Plastic Surgeon wrote the prescription about a week before the surgery. Also when I received the Surgeons medical records there was no mention of these prescriptions. I think the surgeon removed the drugs. My Question: Was it illegal to write the prescription, since my wife had no need for those drugs at that time and was the Surgeon just trying to cover it up.

That a surgeon would prescribe a painkiller and antibiotic before surgery is not at all uncommon. They do that in the pre-surgery consult so that you have can have the prescription filled and with you when you need it right after surgery. The last thing you want to do on the way home from any surgery is stopping at the pharmacy and waiting for a prescription to be filled.

I agree with anne....when i was due to go in for surgery, they had the scripts all in place prior. if it bothers you, i would ask the surgeons office why it was not in the clinical notes.(when they write a script, they have to keep a duplicate) this should be in your wifes file at the doctors office. the percocets are a controlled substance so he has to keep the record somewhere. i want you to know i am sorry for your loss. also i would look into seeing if there had been complaints filed with the board of surgeons about this doctor. take care please and my sympathys.
