What is the name of your state? CO

Since 1998 I have noticed on my credit report bad debts being charged to my credit like gas bills from CA. There was addresses put on it from CA and NV, which I never lived. There was also an auto loan written off as a bad debt in NV. I have tried talking to the credit reporting company and even written letters about this being on my report without much sucess of being taken off. Recently I received a call and now a letter from a law firm in OH threatening to take action for a debt that was never mine. I asked what prove do they have and they said my signature. I am not sure what I should do? Can they legally take action? How can I prove it is not me!

Have you ever heard of identity theft?? Seems like you might just be a vicitim of that. I dont know a lot about it but someone here does.

Sounds like you *have* been the victim of Identity Theft

Unfortunately, you are going to have a very very long, possibly expensive, road ahead.

Go here: http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft/ "now".

Follow all of those steps. It's going to be extremely important that you have copies of apartment leases/mortgage statements showing your addresses for several years, drivers license, anything and everything from the beginning of those debts on your CR that are not yours. ALL PROOF that you are not responsible for these debts. (if you don't it's going to be a lot harder)

I feel for you.. victims of IT have spent years and thousands of dollars trying to clear their name.

Good luck.
