What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TN

I contacted a company in April 2015 to inquire about a product that they made. They are located in TX. I ended up not purchasing a product from them and bought what I was looking for locally to avoid $125 shipping cost. I received a letter in the mail at my place of work from the company I called to inquire about their product stating that I have 30 days to pay $754 for an item I did NOT purchase. Says Final Notice Past Due! So how can a company legally send me to a collection agency for something I did not purchase? I have very good credit and don't want to deal with having to fight a collection agency to restore my good credit. They have stated that they have tracking # proving the item was delivered to my place of work but since this supposedly happened about 1 yr ago, I have no way of finding out if that actually was received or returned to sender, etc. What I do know is I did not receive any product from them and I did not buy anything from them. Not sure what my next steps should be. Apparently I have about 16 days now until I get sent to collections. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Tell them that you did not order, nor did you receive the item in question. Ask to see a copy of the signed delivery receipt.

If you did not special order a product, purchase a product or enter into any agreement to purchase a product with the company, and if you did not receive any ordered or unordered product from the company, send the company a letter (it is best if the letter comes from an attorney, on attorney letterhead) stating the above. Tell the company that you will seek legal action against them if they persist in their attempts to collect money from you either directly or through a collections agency.

You must be sure that you did not inadvertently order a product or agree to have a product specially-made for you, though. If you are sure of your facts, then the company has no grounds for collecting any money from you.
