What is the name of your state? Florida
I ended relationship with verbally & physically abusive boyfriend 3 months ago - got very afraid of his abuse & threats. At time of telling him I no longer wanted to be involved with him, he told me that he would ruin my reputation, ruin my business and that I owed him money. He has now proceeded to tell many false things about me to others, has told others that I conned him out of $10,000. He gave me this amount of money as a gift and said I never had to pay back. I would never have accepted if I thought it was anything but a gift. He now says he is taking me to court for the money. He has also made physical threats to throw bricks through my store windows. He left that message on my answering machine. I realize and have been told by others including domestic violence support group that I should get a RO on this man.
I don't see how he can demand the return of money that was supposed to be a gift. I used the money to start business over year ago & no longer have that amount. I want him to leave me alone & have peace in my life. He tells me he is not going to leave me alone until I give him back the $10,000 he says I owe him. I am single parent and certainly don't have that money anyway - but would give to him to get him to leave me alone. Again, the money was a gift.

Yes, my question is does he have a right to request that I return the gift of $10,000? And, How can I get him to quit spreading lies about me and leave me alone?

Yes. Whether he will get it or not is another story. Why should you be required to return a gift? Quoting someone else on this forum, "Tell him to bite rocks!"

"And, How can I get him to quit spreading lies about me and leave me alone?"

If I knew the answer to that one, I would be rich and famous and you'd never hear from me again....
